Painting Today I offers a thematic approach to the hands-on study of painting. The course begins with an overview of the state of contemporary painting and includes the following approaches to painting: neo-expressionism, the photographic subject, the figure, the role of space, and both pure and ambiguous approaches to abstraction. Class exercises and projects will be supplemented with visual presentations on historical and contemporary artists working within the specified themes. The course is inspired by the Tony Godfrey book of the same title (2009, currently out-of-print), and references will be provided for those who would like to explore further. Previous painting experience recommended. TUESDAYS, SEP 17- DEC 10, 6PM - 9PM ONLINE
