Biography
Kate Brooks-Heinimann is an artist and certified art educator based on Lekwungen Territory (Victoria, BC). She teaches art at Vancouver Island School of Art, McTavish Academy and in School District 61. Kate completed her Certificate of Visual Art at VISA in 2013, her BFA at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2016, and a BEd in art education at UVic in 2021. Since 2016, Kate’s work has been exhibited throughout British Columbia and Alberta and she has completed multiple artwork commissions within Canada and the United States. She has also been awarded scholarships to Parks Canada’s Art in the Park Artist Residency, and the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts Mentored Studio Residency. As an artist, Kate’s work is deeply rooted in learning about nature and sharing her findings with others through painting. When not painting in her studio or en plein air, Kate can be found tending her little garden or exploring the outdoors.
