Begin a collection of fabrics - type and size can vary, from lace to demin and small scraps to grandma's linen tablecloth! Look for a variety of colour, value, texture and pattern. These fabrics can have personal significance or be items found at the thrift store. It's intended that some fabrics will be shared with others and the instructor will supplement from her supply. Your collection shouldn't be larger than a shopping bags worth!

A selection of hand sewing needles - embroidery needles, applique needles and similar

A selection of threads - from 60 weight for the sewing machine to heavier embroidery style floss and perle cotton - a variety of colours

Fabric scissors, small threads snips

One yard of lightweight paper backed fusible web

Seam Ripper

Straight pins and 10-15 small safety pins

Inspiration resources - consider 3-4 themes that you might like to work with. Topics could be a personal story or subject, a moment in time, an ecological issue, or something else that you hold close.
